Rimrock English Shepherds  Ten Sleep, Wyoming

Lucas, Dally, and Elsa... February 2010

English Shepherds were the dog of choice on homesteads just a few generations ago.   Our ranch had its beginnings in 1891 just a few miles down the road.  The family moved to this place in 1909.  Since the beginning, a variety of stockdogs have been part of the action.  We have had many kinds and styles of dogs, but it was only in 2006 that we brought aboard a registered English Shepherd.  Many people have asked me why I chose English Shepherds after all these years.  That is easy!  All along I have tried to get Aussie/Border Collie crosses, because I wanted a dog that worked, but was my companion on the days we weren't working.  English Shepherds are that dog...thrilled to work for you, thrilled to lay at your feet when the job is done.  If you doubt me, just look at the photo of Dally below!

Dally rests during our lunch break.

What a tired little cowdog!

My blog is a working ranch diary from a real Wyoming Centennial Ranch.

Our foundation stock started in 2006 with Rimrock Lone Firelight of Shepherd's Way, (ESCR, UKC, CGC, TD), aka "Lucas".  Lucas is from Mary Peaslee's Shepherd's Way English Shepherds in Oregon.  From his first few days on the ranch he has proven himself to be smart, biddable, outgoing, and cowy.  He was joined in July 2007 by Butcher's Foothills Elsa (ESCR, UKC, CGC) from DeAndra Butcher of Salina, Oklahoma.  Elsa has become a valuable member of our working team.  They have produced three outstanding litters.  One of the 2007 puppies named Rimrock Rimfire Dally (ESCR) stayed with us!  She's quite the hand!  Dally works quietly when she's alone, never letting a calf get back, just like her daddy!
